What the club offers

Junior Academy serves players from about age 2 through 12 in coed groups. Each cycle runs five weeks with one hour of training per week—lighter than a full recreational season and aimed at first-time players or anyone who wants extra touches before joining league play. New Junior Academy players receive a training shirt. Qualified, certified coaches lead every session, and activities mix fundamentals with small game-like moments rather than a full match every week. Families should plan on cleats or turf shoes, shin guards (recommended), a size-appropriate ball, and water.

Traditional recreational soccer emphasizes player development and fun, with parent volunteers stepping up as head coaches, assistants, or team managers. The club supplies training gear, practice plans, and game rules so volunteers can run consistent sessions. Practices fall on Monday through Thursday evenings between about 5:30 and 7:00 PM, with exact nights depending on field availability and coach schedules. Games land on weekends—mostly Saturdays—with occasional Sunday makeups after weather. Home practices and home games stay at Bunten Road Park; some away games pair with nearby Norcross or Duluth-area clubs within roughly a 25-minute drive.

Summer adult pickup targets adults 21+ on Friday nights, using a U12-size field and up to 7v7 rosters. Matches are coed with at least one woman on the field at all times, two 20-minute halves, and a club representative on hand to help keep play organized.

Registration, uniforms, and seasonal rhythm

Families register through the club’s Stack Sports portal (Login/Register on duluthsocceracademy.org). Walk-up registration and uniform-fitting events also appear on the calendar and Facebook feed. Recreational seasons follow a familiar fall rhythm each year—registration opening in late spring or summer, coach meetings and roster outreach in August, practices kicking off before opening weekend, and Saturday games running deep into autumn—though exact dates shift annually and should be confirmed for the cycle you are joining.

The recreational uniform kit costs $65 and includes one purple jersey, one gray jersey, and one pair of black shorts. Kits can be re-used when they still fit and are in good shape. When adult pickup is offered in summer, full-season registration has run $80 for the Friday series and walk-up play for a single night has run $15; verify the next summer’s fees when that registration opens.

Mission and coaching culture

The organization grew from parents and coaches who wanted a strong local soccer experience tied to Duluth. Programming is built so players can enjoy the game, grow skills, and eventually compete at whatever level fits them, with lessons that encourage steady development rather than a single narrow track.
