About

Homewood Soccer Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit youth soccer organization based in Homewood, Alabama, in the Birmingham metro. The club grew out of Homewood Parks and Recreation and has operated independently since 2005, led by an executive director and professional staff with oversight from a volunteer board. Programming is built for children from preschool ages through high school. The mission is to be the club of choice for families who want strong training and positive experiences in a community setting.

What the club offers

Four main pathways cover different ages and commitment levels. The Patriot League introduces 4U through 8U players in an intramural model: younger groups combine practice and play on one weeknight, while 7U and 8U add a separate Saturday intramural game. Red Teams are recreational sides for 9U and older that practice twice weekly and play one match weekly, with a mix of home fixtures and road games against other Birmingham-area clubs. The Academy program serves U9 through U12 with a child-centered emphasis on individual development ahead of short-term results. Blue Teams are U13 through U19 select groups formed through competitive tryouts; they compete in the Alabama Soccer Association State League with statewide scheduling that still keeps many matches in the Birmingham area, plus up to two tournaments or State Cup involvement and a higher time and cost expectation than Red.

Training sites, fields, and office

The Homewood Soccer Complex on South Lakeshore Drive offers three full-size grass fields maintained by Homewood Parks and Recreation, which also decides weather-related closures. West Oxmoor Park adds three full-size turf fields off West Oxmoor Road. The club office sits inside the Homewood Community Center at 1632 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209, with general correspondence also accepted at the club’s Birmingham post office box.

Tryouts, academy evaluations, and registration

Competitive tryouts and Academy evaluations are organized by birth year. Academy evaluations cover birth years 2014 through 2018; Blue Team competitive tryouts cover 2007 through 2013, aligned with U.S. Soccer player development age-group formats from 7v7 through 11v11. Families use the club’s tryout registration links for those tracks. Patriot League spring seasons follow a repeating rhythm: 4U meets on Thursday evenings, 5U/6U on Tuesday evenings, and 7U/8U hold Thursday practices with Saturday intramural games, generally running from late February into April for spring. Registration for Patriot and other levels is handled online through SportsEngine; anyone paying without a credit card can visit the soccer office inside the Homewood Park and Recreation building by scheduling an appointment. Office visits are by appointment, typically during Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning-to-midday hours.

Patriot League fees and gear

For Patriot League spring play, 4U and combined 5U/6U registration is one hundred fifteen dollars and 7U/8U registration is one hundred seventy dollars, with a uniform bundle included in that fee. Families living outside Homewood pay an additional twenty-five dollar non-resident fee. Late registration, when offered, may include a twenty dollar late fee and cannot guarantee friend requests. Players need a size three ball, water, shin guards, athletic shorts and soccer socks, and cleats are encouraged but not required.

Philosophy and coaching support

Core values stress long-term player development, a welcoming environment for players and families, diversity and inclusion, quality experiences at every age and ability, and keeping cost from being a barrier to participation. Patriot League sessions rely on volunteer parent coaches guided by staff, including a player development coordinator who supplies weekly lesson plans and on-field demonstrations. Competitive and Academy questions route to the technical director and executive director; recreational and office matters go through the office manager and recreational director.

How to reach the club

The soccer office sees visitors by appointment Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings into early afternoon. Call +1 205-874-9182 or email Chrisrogers@homewoodsoccer.com for registration, recreational programming, uniforms, and general office questions. Competitive and Academy inquiries can go to Masoncook@homewoodsoccer.com or Emilyclifford@homewoodsoccer.com; Patriot League coordination often involves leelavette@charter.net.
