About

Lakewood Soccer Association (LSA) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Lakewood, Ohio, recognized under IRC section 501(c)(3) with EIN 34-1406305. The association runs co-ed recreational soccer for youth roughly ages 4 through 14, centered on a Saturday Soccer program it has run for more than 40 years. There are no tryouts; teams are coached by volunteer parents.

Programs and seasons

Saturday Soccer runs two primary seasons each year: spring (about six games, typically mid-April through May) and fall (eight games, typically August through October). Saturday morning games use rotating start times such as 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 11:30 a.m., depending on the week. At the beginning of each season the association holds kick-off camps led by Lakewood High School soccer coaches and players.

Age brackets and ball sizes

Programming spans U5 through U14 brackets aligned to school grade (Pre-K through eighth grade) using an August 1 birthdate cutoff; the exact birth-year windows shift with each seasonal cycle. Ball sizes follow U5–U6 size 3, U7–U11 size 4, and U12–U14 size 5.

Games, practices, and training extras

Games for younger divisions (U5–U8) are at Memorial Fields, and U9–U14 games are at Tyler Field, both in the Cleveland Metroparks, on Saturday mornings. Teams hold at least one practice per week; practice time and location are set by the coach. During the spring season the association may offer one optional footskills session per week when weather allows.

Registration, fees, and aid

Player registration is seasonal. For spring 2026, player signup is $60 per child, open January 12 through February 17, with no new registrations after February 17. Team assignments are planned for the week of March 16, followed by schedules; games begin April 11 and continue Saturday mornings through May 16 that spring. Families facing economic hardship can request fee assistance by completing the Financial Assistance Request before registering. Coach, referee, and board volunteer signups use the association’s SportsEngine (Sport Ngin) registration forms each season.

Uniforms and gear

Purple and gold uniforms are sold in store or online through Geiger’s in Lakewood at 14710 Detroit Avenue, including a dedicated Lakewood Soccer Association team store online. Players must wear shin guards and bring a water bottle to association events.
