About

NorthStar Soccer Club operates as a Christian faith-based youth soccer organization in Birmingham with two primary practice hubs and a mission to keep strong soccer instruction within reach for families. The club invests in players physically through skill and fitness, spiritually through a ministry lens, and academically by encouraging discipline in school and sport. Coaches are volunteers who focus on each child’s well-being across those areas each season.

Programs and competition

NorthStar Intramural League is a recreational track for younger players: intramural teams play other NorthStar teams rather than outside clubs. That pathway is built for kindergarten-fourth grades (with fifth graders who already have soccer experience steered toward club teams). NorthStar Futures League is the club-soccer step-up: more structured training, twice-weekly practices typically lasting about ninety minutes, and play for players from fourth and fifth grade with experience through high school. Alabama State League (ASL) is the most selective tier, with travel around Alabama for away games, tryouts, and a limited number of teams each season; players who are not placed on an ASL roster can still join Futures.

Some NorthStar teams also compete in the Central Alabama Soccer League alongside the intramural and internal NorthStar league play described above.

Training sites and schedule shape

Intramural groups split into NorthStar West and NorthStar East clusters. West-side U8 and U10 practices have been held at McLendon Park near Legion Field (400 Graymont Avenue West); U6 meets there on Saturday mornings for a combined practice-and-game block. East-side U8 and U10 use Holy Rosary Catholic Church (7414 Georgia Road) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Restoration Academy hosts a NorthStar program reserved for students of that school, with practice details coordinated through the school. Futures and ASL practices are typically at McLendon Park or Holy Rosary; ASL training has run about three sessions per week at McLendon Park at roughly ninety minutes. Season start dates shift each cycle, so confirming the current calendar with the club avoids missing a registration or tryout window.

Fees, uniforms, and equipment

NorthStar Intramural soccer has run about fifty dollars per season for U6 and U8 and about seventy-five dollars for U10/U11, with payment plans available and reduced rates in some situations. Futures fees have been one hundred dollars per season plus a thirty-five dollar uniform fee for players who need a current Futures kit. Alabama State League fees have been one hundred fifty dollars per season. Financial aid and payment plans are available for families who need help. Intramural players receive a NorthStar jersey for gamedays; black shorts and black socks are recommended. Families buy appropriate ball sizes (size 3 for U6 and U8, size 4 for U10–U12; size 4 for U12 Futures and size 5 for U13+), cleats, shin guards, socks, and a water bottle. Used cleats and a limited supply of shin guards may be available when finances are tight.

Values and community support

Player and coach culture is organized around three words: responsibility, resilience, and reverence—owning actions, growing through setbacks, and honoring God in how players treat teammates, opponents, officials, and families. Beyond teams, the broader NorthStar Soccer Ministries invites additional volunteers as club or intramural coaches, mentors, and van drivers.
