About

Placer United Soccer Club is a nonprofit, community-based club founded in 1982 and rooted in Placer County, with indoor offices in Rocklin and major outdoor activity at Placer Valley Sports Complex in West Roseville. The club spans Grassroots recreation for young children, a bridge into competitive play, elite competitive teams including ECNL, supplemental goalkeeper work, camps and clinics, and College Bound coverage of alumni heading to college soccer.

Programs and age groups

Grassroots welcomes boys and girls ages 5–12, grouped by birth year each season, with volunteer parent coaches mentored by the Grassroots director. Training follows a U.S. Soccer–aligned curriculum that favors individual development and plenty of touches in small-sided play. Sessions typically run as split winter, spring, and fall blocks with up to three 90-minute team practices per week alongside the director staff; outdoor work has used Cirby Elementary School fields in Roseville, with times and locations adjusted for weather and the competitive calendar.

Transition to Strike targets U6, U8, and U10 boys and girls who may move toward competitive soccer. Roughly twenty to twenty-five players per age group and gender train at least twice weekly, play small-sided games inside the program, and face outside competition through play dates and local tournaments across an August–May season with winter and summer breaks.

Competitive programming from U9 through U18 centers on technical, tactical, physical, and mental growth for players who want a demanding environment. Placer United is the National Premier League club in the county, sends teams to strong league and tournament schedules inside California and beyond, and connects players with ODP, PDP, and ID2 identification paths plus college exposure. ECNL is part of the pathway for families pursuing that national platform. Goalkeeper-specific training runs for ages 10–18 with one sixty-minute session per week plus optional drop-in clinics at no extra fee beyond the player’s club registration.

Tryouts and registration

For the 2026/2027 season, every player registers through AthleteOne before tryouts. U.S. Soccer and U.S. Club Soccer age-group rules shift that year so birth-year bands align more closely with school grades; a U8–U19 matrix maps each birthday to the correct tryout group. Tryout weeks are set for U8–U14 from May 11 through May 17 and U15–U19 from May 18 through May 24, with sessions at Placer Valley Sports Complex, 2600 Westbrook Boulevard, Roseville. The Rocklin indoor training center on Tinker Road anchors daily training and administration. Night-by-night tryout times inside those weeks are added once staff set the schedule, so families should stay in touch through AthleteOne and club communication while preparing for evaluations.

Grassroots registration opens and closes per session; cancellations more than ten days before the first session receive a full refund, while later cancellations receive club credit toward camps, clinics, or a future Grassroots block instead of cash back.

Mission, style of play, and extras

The mission is to develop, educate, and inspire every participant to become a lifelong supporter of the game by building the strongest possible club culture and player development pathway. Day-to-day expectations call for accountability to players, parents, coaches, and governing bodies; consistent, educated teaching; dedication to development; discipline and respect; honesty, ethics, and integrity; and inspiration across the membership.

In possession the model favors quick, purposeful movement of the ball and players to threaten the goal. Out of possession the club teaches organized collective defending to deny chances and win the ball back.

Camps and clinics include an ongoing skills camp series plus Munchkin Madness sessions led by club coaches. The club also hosts events such as the Placer United Girls Cup and maintains uniform ordering and spirit wear paths for families who need kit.

Transition to Strike bridges U6, U8, and U10 players toward competitive soccer. Competitive club soccer focuses on U9–U18 development, adds ECNL for families pursuing that league, and includes year-round goalkeeper training for ages 10–18 at no extra fee beyond normal club registration.

Where does the club train and play? The business office and indoor training center are at 1091 Tinker Road, Suite 300, Rocklin. Grassroots outdoor practices have used Cirby Elementary School fields in Roseville. Major outdoor tryouts and many league or tournament dates use Placer Valley Sports Complex at 2600 Westbrook Boulevard in West Roseville. Exact practice assignments can shift with weather and the competitive schedule, so families should confirm the field location staff share for their team or session.

Tryout weeks are May 11–17 for U8–U14 groups and May 18–24 for U15–U19 groups at Placer Valley Sports Complex in West Roseville. Age bands follow the new U.S. Club Soccer matrix for that season, so parents should match a child’s birthday to the U8–U19 matrix before arriving. Night-by-night tryout times inside those weeks are shared through AthleteOne and club communication once staff set the schedule.

What does Transition to Strike or Grassroots cost?Transition to Strike bills $140 per month across the August–May season with planned winter and summer breaks. Grassroots fees vary by session; the club refunds 100 percent of Grassroots tuition when families cancel at least ten days before the first session and otherwise issues club credit toward another camp, clinic, or Grassroots season. Competitive team tuition depends on age group and team level—families should confirm the current figure when they commit through the club’s registration flow.
