About

Simsbury Soccer Club (SSC) is a nonprofit Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) member that runs soccer for Simsbury school-age children from early childhood introductions through high school. Roughly 1,100–1,300 players join fall and spring cycles, making SSC one of the state’s larger community clubs. The organization supports town fields with goals, nets, benches, and maintenance help alongside Simsbury Parks and Recreation.

What the club offers

Younger recreation covers U5 through U8, including Soccer Heroes and FUNdamentals-style introductions, weekly sessions, and small-sided play focused on fun, fairness, and fundamentals. A standalone Wednesday U5 block at Curtiss Field gives a short-season, parent-involved entry point separate from other rec tracks. The Farmington Valley League (FVL) bridges rec and higher commitment: Simsbury teams face neighboring Farmington Valley towns in two-year bands labeled U10 (U9–U10), U12 (U11–U12), and U15 (U14–U15), with a lighter weekly load than travel so athletes can pair soccer with other sports.

Travel soccer targets roughly third through eighth grade for players who want CJSA league play and tournament weekends. Independent evaluators run spring tryouts for the following fall-and-spring cycle; teams usually train twice a week for about 90 minutes and play two weekend games, with CJSA Connecticut Cup beginning at U11. Older players who are not on travel rosters can still play FVL. TOPSoccer welcomes athletes ages four and up with physical or intellectual challenges, run by volunteers with about two dozen participants in a typical week. Senior spring travel serves grades 9–12 with one practice a week, weekend league and friendlies, and Connecticut Cup; roster spots are first come, first served, with Simsbury residency expected and non-residents reviewed case by case.

Costs families should plan for

Travel budgeting combines roughly $300–$450 per year in typical team fees plus about $295 in club dues, before uniforms and optional out-of-state trips; some teams offset costs through fundraising. Senior spring travel is $180 per player with a $150 early bird option; SSC supplies game T-shirts and referee fees, while players bring shorts, socks, shin guards, cleats, and a ball. If a team hires a paid coach, families should expect about $100 per player in added coaching fees, and tournament entries remain a team decision.

For spring 2026, club registration opened divisions at $125 for the seven-week Wednesday U5 block, $150 for Soccer Heroes U5, $200 for U6–U8 recreation, $225 for Farmington Valley League U10–U15 teams, $180 standard senior travel ($150 early bird), no fee for TOPSoccer, and $200 for optional travel preseason prep camps and spring break camps for the eligible age groups. Fall and later seasons use the same registration flow with refreshed division pricing when each window opens.

Where teams train and play

Home soccer happens across Simsbury complexes: Iron Horse Boulevard (Iron Horse Fields), Curtiss Park on Tariffville Road, Henry James Memorial School on Firetown Road, Orkil Field on Old Farms Road in West Simsbury, and Squadron Line School on Squadron Line Road. Away travel matches usually stay around Hartford County—commonly from Enfield to Middletown and Burlington—while older cup play can cross the state and some teams add New England tournaments.

Tryouts, team formation, and registration

Farmington Valley League and recreation divisions enroll through Stack Sports when the club opens a season; deadlines vary by division. Travel candidates register online before May–June tryouts so check-in stays organized, and teams reform each cycle based on evaluator scores rather than automatic carryover. Senior spring travel places players as applications arrive, with seasons starting in late April and running into mid-June. Farmington Valley League schedules and scores run through QuickScores Farmington for the valley-wide calendar.

Mission, coaching, and player experience

SSC teaches soccer as a way to build effort, respect, teamwork, and love for the game, stressing development and sportsmanship ahead of trophies alone. The club earned CJSA’s Club Soccer Sportsmanship Award as recognition for sideline and player culture. Travel coaches are interviewed volunteers; head coaches hold CJSA “E” licenses after roughly sixteen hours of coursework and field work, with clinics and professional support layered on top. Playing-time expectations for travel sit in the club’s commitment policy families should read before accepting a roster spot.
