West Hartford, Connecticut

About

West Hartford Soccer Club is the umbrella home for West Hartford Youth Soccer Association (WHYSA) and West Hartford Girls Soccer League (WHGSL). Together they give town families co-ed recreational soccer, girls-only recreational soccer, and competitive boys and girls travel teams under one WeHa Soccer information hub, with registration, field maps, coach resources, and program contacts organized by league.

What the club offers

WHYSA runs co-ed recreational soccer for West Hartford children in age-appropriate divisions—Pre-Training, Training, Mites, Juniors, and Seniors—with emphasis on fun, fair play, skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. WHGSL’s recreational side is a developmental girls program built around teamwork, enjoyment, and learning through play; volunteer coaches receive training materials, coaching education clinics, and videos, and the curriculum follows U.S. Soccer guidance and Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) expectations. WHGSL’s stated mission is to make soccer attractive and available to West Hartford girls roughly ages six through fifteen across training, recreational, and competitive tracks.

Boys travel under WHYSA spans BU8–U10, BU11–U12, and BU13–U20 bands. Girls travel under WHGSL mirrors that structure with GU8–U10, GU11–U12, and GU13–U20 groups. Roster spots on travel teams are by invitation after tryouts: boys travel holds tryouts once a year in May or June, and girls travel holds tryouts once a year in June. Uniform cycles, fan portals, and home-field references are maintained separately for boys and girls travel.

West Hartford TOPSoccer serves athletes ages five through eighteen with physical or intellectual disabilities, pairing players with volunteer buddies from area high schools and travel teams, teaching basics and small-sided play in an adapted setting; the fall season runs from September into early November and carries no registration fee.

Mission, coaching, and community supports

WHYSA recreational soccer centers on enjoying the game, learning the sport, and building life skills—including a lasting love of soccer—while matching each child’s ability and desired level of competition. WHGSL combines welcoming recreational entry points for newer players with competitive travel that challenges stronger players in inter-town and state league play, and it highlights long-term athlete, referee, and coach development plus advocacy for quality West Hartford soccer facilities.

The club steers coaches toward education resources, practice ideas, concussion awareness, and heading guidance. Every adult involved with WHYSA and WHGSL must complete SafeSport training, consistent with Connecticut’s youth-athlete protection expectations.

Registration rhythm, tryouts, and camps

Recurring recreational registration windows run February 1 through March 1 for spring soccer and July 1 through August 1 for fall soccer, with open spots and waitlists continuing until divisions fill. Families enroll through the Stack Sports flows linked from wehasoccer.org for WHYSA co-ed recreational, WHGSL girls recreational, boys travel, and girls travel.

The 2026 “Just for Kicks” summer camp welcomes ages four through fifteen to Hall High School from 9:00 a.m. to noon, combining technical work and camp-style games. Two Monday–Friday sessions are scheduled July 13–17 and July 27–31, led by Terry Philip (boys travel coordinator), Rich Michaud (girls travel coordinator), Scott Ferguson (Hall High girls varsity coach and longtime travel coach), and additional travel-level staff; West Hartford residents pay $209 and non-residents pay $219 through the town RecDesk program (search “Just for Kicks” or use program codes 412550A and 412550B). Inclement-weather plans may move indoors if Hall High construction limits field use.

Fields, officials, and how to reach the club

Games and practices spread across many West Hartford parks and school complexes; the club maintains individual field maps (Beachland, Conard, Duffy, Eisenhower, Fern Park, Glover, Hall HS, Kennedy, King Philip, Sedgwick, Whiting Lane, Wolcott, and others) plus turf rules for families, coaches, and referees. A separate West Hartford officials section supports USSF certification pathways and recreational referee development.
