About

Capital Area Soccer Association (CASA) is a parent-founded youth soccer organization that has served the Greater Harrisburg area—including Lower Paxton, Susquehanna, West Hanover, and neighboring townships—since October 1996. Families do not have to live inside those townships to join. CASA runs outdoor soccer in the spring, summer, and fall on township and school-district fields across the region, winter indoor programming at partner facilities such as In The Net (Palmyra) and Harrisburg Christian Academy for recreational ages, and a home hub at the CASA Soccer Complex on Nyes Road in Harrisburg.

What the club offers

Recreational programming reaches from introductory coed Little Ballers sessions for the youngest players through winter recreational blocks for roughly U5–U14. Travel soccer targets families ready for a higher commitment: professionally licensed coaches, one-year (twelve-month) team commitments, and boys’ and girls’ teams from U8 through U19 formed each spring through open tryouts. Travel teams train with a progressive player curriculum built in twelve-week cycles, receive oversight from a full-time technical director, and compete in league play, state cups, tournaments, and—for older groups—college showcase events when rosters qualify. CASA teams regularly compete in Central Pennsylvania Youth Soccer League (CPYSL), Atlantic Premier League (APL), PRCL, Elite Development Program (EDP), and National League, alongside other cup and tournament play. Athletes pursuing the highest regional pathway can explore PA Classics Harrisburg through the strategic partnership CASA maintains with that program, including separate tryout and registration steps for those rosters.

Where teams train and play

The CASA Soccer Complex anchors outdoor play at Lower Paxton Township’s Ranger Fields and George Park (300 Nyes Road, Harrisburg). Satellite training and match sites include Dauphin County Technical School on Locust Lane, Kohl Memorial Park (Dowhower Road), Brightbill Park (Commons Drive), Linglestown Middle School on Mountain Road, Bishop McDevitt High School on Crusader Way, and In The Net on Airport Road in Palmyra. Away travel for league games usually stays within about an hour for most travel teams, while tournament schedules can extend farther depending on team level.

Tryouts, registration, and family commitments

Travel tryouts for the upcoming seasonal year typically open for registration in early March, with sessions held at the CASA Soccer Complex; some cycles also use Landis Field at Central Dauphin Middle School on Locust Lane. Every tryout registrant pays a twenty-dollar non-refundable registration fee. After the second tryout session, families usually receive team decisions within about forty-eight hours, and accepted roster spots stay guaranteed for about forty-eight hours while families decide. A separate team registration fee becomes due when a player accepts a CASA travel assignment. Recreational and winter programs enroll through the club’s online registration flows (including GotSport-linked events for seasonal rec). Little Ballers sessions at the Nyes Road complex have recently been priced around seventy-five dollars for a shorter weekly block and eighty-five dollars for a longer block, with exact seasons and dates changing each cycle.

Development philosophy and leadership

CASA teaches possession-oriented, attacking soccer driven by player decisions on the ball, aligned with U.S. Soccer player-development guidance and influenced by academy-style teaching models. The club emphasizes thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork from early ages through the travel years. Full-time Technical Director Patrick Thompson leads curriculum questions; Club Manager Steve Thompson handles day-to-day operations. The office keeps weekday morning hours Monday through Thursday for in-person questions.

Frequently asked questions

What ages and program levels does CASA offer?Little Ballers introduces coed soccer to the youngest players (recent cycles used birth years around 2021–2022). Winter recreational indoor programming serves roughly U5 through U14 at partner facilities. Travel soccer forms boys’ and girls’ teams from U8 through U19 with Premier, Blue, and Elite-style groupings depending on age and gender, year-round training expectations, and league play through CPYSL, APL, PRCL, EDP, National League, state cups, and tournaments. Families aiming for PA Classics Harrisburg follow that program’s separate tryout path.

Where does CASA train or play?Outdoor soccer centers on the CASA Soccer Complex at 300 Nyes Road (George Park and Ranger Fields) in Harrisburg, with additional games and practices at locations such as Dauphin County Technical School, Kohl Park, Brightbill Park, Linglestown Middle School, Bishop McDevitt High School, and In The Net in Palmyra. Travel tryouts are scheduled at the Nyes Road complex, and some cycles add sessions at Landis Field on the Central Dauphin Middle School campus.

When are travel tryouts and how does registration work?CASA forms new travel teams each spring. Registration for a given seasonal year typically opens in early March, with age-group schedules released for that cycle. Players must register and pay the tryout fee before attending. After the second tryout session, staff usually notifies families within about forty-eight hours, and roster spots remain open for about forty-eight hours once offered.

What do tryouts or registration cost?Travel tryout registration costs twenty dollars and is non-refundable. Accepting a travel roster spot triggers a separate team registration fee due at assignment; dollar amounts for that fee and the full seasonal team budget arrive with each team’s plan before families commit. Little Ballers pricing has recently been about seventy-five dollars for the shorter weekly session and eighty-five dollars for the longer session, subject to change each season.

What does a year of CASA travel soccer cost?Travel costs are team-specific. Each age group gets a written team plan before acceptance that breaks down expected league fees, tournament plans, coaching, and other expenses for that seasonal year so families can compare offers. Uniforms, travel to away games, and optional extras sit outside the core team plan in many cases—confirm line items with the club manager when you review your offer.

What is CASA’s mission or coaching approach?CASA is a volunteer parent association built to grow soccer in Central Pennsylvania while investing in licensed professional coaching for travel and elite tracks. The curriculum stresses attractive, possession-based soccer, player-driven decisions, and alignment with U.S. Soccer development guidance. A full-time technical director oversees player, coach, and team development across the travel program.

How can families contact CASA or get updates?Call (717) 652-3676 during weekday late-morning office hours (Monday–Thursday) or dial (717) 657-9596 for the weather line. Email ClubManager@casasoccer.org for operations, PatrickThompson@casasoccer.org for technical questions, and info@casasoccer.org for travel tryout help. CASA shares current recreational, winter, and tryout registration links through its registration center each season; following CASA on Facebook is another way to catch program announcements.
