About

Chargers Soccer Club is a nonprofit Tampa Bay youth soccer organization with Clearwater, Tampa, and Lakewood Ranch campuses and more than 3,800 players, more than 100 coaches, and deep competitive history. The Clearwater campus serves Pinellas County with recreational soccer from about age four through adult-friendly programming and a competitive track for players about seven through nineteen who want a higher training load and travel schedule.

What the club offers

Recreational soccer emphasizes enjoyment, fundamentals, and community play with weekly practices and weekend games, volunteer-led coaching in the youngest brackets, and room for older teens who want structured play without full travel demands. The competitive program uses a progressive curriculum across technical, tactical, and physical work. The youth academy from about U7 through U12 uses Yellow, Red, and White team tiers so players can grow inside the club, plus a Pre-MLS track for U9 through U12 that feeds the MLS NEXT side of the house. From about U13 through U19, families will see Select, Premier, and Elite teams by campus, and the club can combine rosters across campuses for certain events so players gain wider exposure when it helps the group.

Training sites and league play (Clearwater)

Clearwater training and games center on Countryside Sports Plex and Eddie C. Moore Soccer Fields. Competitive teams train at least two and often three sessions per week depending on age and level, with league games mostly on weekends and regional travel for league and tournament play.

Pre-MLS and MLS NEXT pathways

Pre-MLS teams play in the Florida Academy League and West Florida Premier League–style schedules that mirror the demands of elite youth soccer, with four training sessions per week, individual development plans, and coordination with MLS NEXT staff so standards stay aligned. MLS NEXT programming targets the highest youth competitive tier in the country, with holistic support for technical, tactical, physical, and mental growth. Chargers also runs MLS NEXT Talent ID events for players who want to test into that environment, with registration handled in GotSport.

Tryouts and registration

Competitive tryouts are campus-based. The Clearwater campus begins its competitive tryout cycle May 1, with detailed age-group times finalized each spring as that window approaches; tryout blocks generally run about one to two weeks in early May across the club. Families sign up for Clearwater competitive tryouts in GotSport when registration opens; email support@chargerssoccer.com if you need the active tryout program for your player’s age. Spring recreational registration for Clearwater also uses GotSport when the season is open—use the same email if you need the correct rec program for your child.

Mission and everyday expectations

The club’s mission is a positive, supportive place where players build skill and character through dedication, teamwork, and fair play, aiming for a lifelong love of soccer. Competitive programming still expects commitment to training, games, and team responsibilities as players move up the pathway toward college, professional, and national-team opportunities where talent and work rate align.
