About

Lewiston Auburn Youth Soccer Association (LAYSA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation formed in 1979 to promote youth soccer in the Lewiston–Auburn area. It belongs to Soccer Maine and is affiliated with the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA). The association reports more than one thousand players on more than seventy teams, split between in-house “house” teams that play each other and travel teams that face clubs from other central Maine towns under Soccer Maine.

Fall house (recreational) league

The house program welcomes children regardless of skill level. There are no standings or playoffs. For fall programming, “soccer age” is the player’s age on July 31 preceding the season (currently stated as July 31, 2025 on program pages). U6 Mites (ages 4–5, co-ed) meet for hour-long Saturday-morning clinics over six weeks, focused on basic skills through games; parent volunteers assist the program director; the fee is $70 ($80 after July 20) and includes a shirt and size 3 ball; parents stay on site. U8 Micros (ages 6–7, single-gender when numbers allow) adds weekly practice set by the volunteer coach and Saturday small-sided games; fee $75 ($85 after July 20), shirt and socks included; team assignments arrive in late August. U10 Juniors (ages 8–9) and U12 Seniors (ages 10–11), single-gender when numbers allow, hold weekly practices plus Sunday games with certified youth referees at U10 and up; fees are $80 ($90 after July 20) and $85 ($95 after July 20) respectively, each including shirt and socks. Coaches are needed at every level; families can sign up to coach through the registration flow.

Fall travel

Travel teams aim for a higher level of competition. Teams usually practice twice per week and play on Sundays across central Maine, with about half of games at home in Auburn. Players are expected to attend practices and games for the full season. For the fall travel cycle described on the travel page, the U12–U14 season can begin in late August and run into early November; the U9–U11 season starts later in September and runs through late October, with a Columbus Day weekend tournament and end-of-season playoffs or festivals. The published fall travel fee is $200, including uniform costs. Anyone who registers for travel but is not placed on a travel roster is moved to a house team and the registration fee difference is refunded. A full refund minus a $10 administrative fee is available on request. Players must be registered with LAYSA before attending travel tryouts; tryouts are held at the LAYSA soccer complex behind Auburn Middle School, with times and dates posted on the travel page.

Spring house league

Spring offers a co-ed house season for youths in grades 6–8 (described as U12–U14). Games are on Sundays from late April through early June (weather permitting) at the LAYSA field complex in Auburn. The fee is $75 and includes a team jersey and socks. Registration closes on a published spring deadline (April 12, 2026 on the current announcement), with a $10 late fee after that date; enrollment is capped and filled in order received. Online payment accepts Visa, MasterCard, and e-check; families may also download a printable registration form and mail it with a check.

It is a Soccer Maine member organization affiliated with USYSA and reports more than one thousand players on more than seventy house and travel teams.

What is the difference between house league and travel?House league is recreational soccer with no standings or playoffs; teams play other LAYSA teams on a schedule built for fun and development. Travel teams practice about twice weekly, play Sundays against other towns in central Maine through Soccer Maine, and carry a higher expectation that players attend every practice and game.

What ages and fees apply to fall house league?House divisions run U6 Mites (ages 4–5, co-ed), U8 Micros (6–7), U10 Juniors (8–9), and U12 Seniors (10–11), with single-gender teams when numbers allow. Published fees are $70, $75, $80, and $85 respectively before a July 20 late-registration increase ($10 higher per age band). U6 includes a shirt and size 3 ball; older divisions include shirt and socks.

How does fall travel work and what does it cost?Travel is for families wanting stronger competition. Season windows on the travel page differ slightly by age: older travel brackets can start in late August and run into early November, while younger travel brackets start in late September and end in late October, including a Columbus Day tournament and season-ending playoffs or festivals. The stated fall travel fee is $200 including uniforms. Players not named to a travel roster are placed on a house team and the fee difference is refunded; a full refund minus a $10 admin fee is offered on request. Registration with LAYSA is required before tryouts.

Is there a spring program?LAYSA runs a co-ed spring house season for students in grades 6–8 (U12–U14). Games are on Sunday afternoons from late April through early June at the Auburn field complex when weather allows. The fee is $75 and covers a jersey and socks; a spring registration deadline and $10 late fee apply when announced for that year.
