What kinds of teams and programs does Northern Utah United offer my child?NUU runs local Challenger League play for roughly ages 6–14 with small-sided games and parent-coached teams supported by Youth Directors, Utah Youth Soccer state-level teams from U10 up with Royalty, Futures, and color-named groups depending on roster numbers, and ECNL Regional League for its highest girls pathway plus boys ECNL-RL from U13. Add-ons include Destination Soccer for younger players, goalkeeper training, Sports Academy, team training packages, Train at Home, and camps offered alongside the core program menu.

About
Northern Utah United Soccer, or NUU, is northern Utah’s community soccer organization, with continuous service to the region’s players and families since 1987. Programming spells out what each track costs, what coaches and players should expect, and how competitive levels line up with a child’s goals.
What you are signing up for
NUU aims to be the main resource for soccer families and children at any level of play, commitment, and ambition. Pathways are organized so families can pick the right team, group, or program without decoding league acronyms alone. The club culture is inclusive, and teams keep their own identity while meeting shared standards.
Local play: Challenger League
For ages 6 through 14, Challenger League offers local competition with small-sided games, parent and volunteer coaches, and mentorship from Youth Directors. The club runs local teams at eleven area locations so kids play close to home while still moving toward state and regional soccer. Pool placement weighs gender, age, size and speed, ability, and proximity to other players. The league uses flight levels (including 5v5 and 7v7 models) and a middle school option for players who want more than typical rec soccer without full travel commitments.
State and travel teams
From U10 and older, State Teams train and compete in Utah Youth Soccer Association play when players want teammates and coaches who share similar ambition. Royalty teams are the state-level sides; Futures is a development track toward Royalty with similar training principles; additional color-named teams form when more than two squads exist in an age group for a more relaxed but still challenging environment. Older travel groups may also join events such as the Cache Valley Cup in July when teams opt in.
ECNL Regional League
For U13–U19 girls, the top pathway runs through ECNL Regional League. Boys joined ECNL-RL from U13 upward starting in the 2025 season. The league adds age-based showcases, postseason pathways, and alignment that can support movement toward Utah Avalanche ECNL opportunities where appropriate.
Add-on programs
Beyond team soccer, NUU offers Destination Soccer (introductory monthly blocks for young players with games and progression ranks), goalkeeper training, Sports Academy performance training, team training packages, Train at Home content, and summer camps. Destination Soccer for 4–7 year olds meets at hubs such as Hansen Family Sports Complex in North Logan and the NUU Training Center in Logan, with signup through the same online registration system the club uses for other programs.
Tryouts, joining a team, and the 2026 age-calendar change
For the 2026–2027 cycle, U8–U11 tryouts are Monday, May 18 in Cache Valley and Tuesday, May 19 in Tremonton; U12–U19 tryouts are Tuesday and Wednesday, May 26–27 in Cache Valley and Thursday, May 29 in Tremonton, with times announced closer to the dates. Challenger placement follows residence with exceptions for roster balance; state placement uses birth year and skill. Soccer age groups are shifting toward an August 1–July 31 school-year cutoff aligned with U.S. Soccer, USYS, US Club, and AYSO. A month-by-month timeline through spring 2026 covers data review, projected placements, coaching assignments by the end of March 2026, and tryout details by March 31. An online calculator covers birthdates from August 1, 2007 through July 31, 2023 for planning only.
