About

Seattle Youth Soccer Association (SYSA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) umbrella organization that supports soccer for children ages 5 through 19 in the cities of Seattle and Shoreline, Washington. Participation tops 12,000 members overall, and fall recreational programming alone draws more than 12,500 players. The model combines deeply local neighborhood clubs with citywide scheduling and competition so families can start close to home and still access broader levels of play as players grow.

Programs and pathways

Twelve neighborhood recreational clubs anchor registration and in-house play for younger age groups. Players from about U5/U6 through U9 typically train and play within their neighborhood club structure. From U10 through U16, teams move into SYSA citywide recreational leagues for more diverse, level-appropriate competition. At U17 through U19, teams can compete in League Washington with expanded boundaries that tie Seattle and Shoreline clubs into inter-club play across the Lake Washington area. Seattle United operates as the citywide advanced-development club for SYSA, offering year-round select and premier programming for roughly U8 through U19, including ECNL pathways for eligible players.

Seasons, registration, and fees

Fall recreational soccer runs through the neighborhood clubs: clubs usually open registration in late April or early May, practices often begin in August, and games start the weekend after Labor Day and continue into October or November depending on age. Families find their assigned club through the Find Your Club tool on SYSA and complete signup with that club. Scholarships are available for families who need fee assistance.

Spring soccer is a separate developmental league (U6 through U19 recreational) focused on extra touches and fun rather than standings. For Spring 2026, team registration opened January 6 and closed March 1; the season began Sunday, March 29, and ran eight Sunday games through Sunday, June 14, with blackout dates on Easter and Memorial Day weekend. Spring team fees for that season were set at $375 for U6–U7 teams, $425 for U8 teams, $450 for U9–U10 teams, and $500 for U11 and older teams. Individual player registration opened January 26 through Demosphere; players who stayed on a fall team that enrolled for spring did not need a separate individual registration. Anne Bare and Kristin Bates serve as registrars, with clubs split between them for spring support.

TOPSoccer, camps, and community offerings

SYSA runs a citywide TOPSoccer program (The Outreach Program for Soccer) for players ages 4 and older with intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities, aligned with U.S. Youth Soccer guidance. Sessions use volunteer buddies, grouped times by ability and age, and flexible mid-season joining. Spring 2026 Wildcats sessions met Sunday afternoons at Arena Sports in Magnuson Park, with a younger group from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and an older group from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., at $30 per player for that spring block plus an end-of-season celebration.

Beyond league play, SYSA hosts the annual City Tournament for recreational teams (U10–U19 in December), jamboree-style city and Shoreline 5v5 events, camps and clinics, a player development academy (PDA) track for younger recreational players, coach education, and school and outreach programming led by dedicated staff.
