About
Bowie FC is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven youth soccer organization based in Bowie, Maryland, operating under Bowie Boys & Girls Club. It blends approachable introductory soccer for young children with academy pathways for players who want more training and competition. The club is a Junior Spirit Club Partner of the Washington Spirit.
What the club offers
The Developmental program serves roughly U4 through U10 players of all experience levels with co-ed teams grouped by US Club Soccer calendar-year age bands. Teams play other Bowie FC developmental sides; no tryout is required. Fall play runs roughly September through November and spring roughly March through May, with practices about two times a week on days the coach sets and games mainly on Saturdays on fields in the city of Bowie.
The Academy program spans about U8 through U18 for players ready for a faster pace and clearer competitive expectations. Academy teams train two or three times a week during fall and spring and join the club’s winter futsal program. Two academy tracks sit side by side: County introduces travel-style league and tournament play, while Travel targets the club’s most committed players with broader regional league and tournament schedules.
County academy teams compete through Anne Arundel Youth Soccer Association against other clubs and enter tournaments in Prince George’s County, Anne Arundel County, and nearby areas. Travel academy teams face strong regional opponents across league and tournament calendars geared toward long-term development.
Each July the club runs summer camps: a U4–U8 developmental camp focused on fundamentals and teamwork, and a U9–U18 academy camp that stresses agility, foot skills, shooting, passing, defending, and preseason readiness for older players.
Development philosophy and player expectations
The mission is to give players from varied backgrounds room to grow technically in a positive, fun, and competitive setting. Day-to-day culture rests on respect, teamwork, and preparation: respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and the game; teamwork over individual glory; and steady work so excellence shows up in training and matches.
On the field, coaching favors a possession-based approach—building out of the back, playing through lines, and creating chances through ball movement—with emphasis on clean touches and passes. After turnovers, teams look to press and recover the ball quickly.
Players are asked to own their development, arrive ready for practice, support teammates, ask questions, lead by example, and represent the club well on and off the pitch. Shin guards are required for practices and games, soccer cleats are required (baseball or football cleats are not allowed), and players should bring their own ball to training.
Tryouts, seasons, and registration
Developmental registration opens each fall and spring season; call +1 301-541-3410 or email admin@bowiesoccer.com for current dates and late-registration rules.
County academy tryouts happen twice each year, before the fall and spring seasons. Every player must try out each cycle, including athletes already on a county roster, and families register for tryouts before attending.
Travel academy tryouts run once a year before the fall season. Returning travel players still try out, and registration is required ahead of evaluations.
Program fees
Developmental fees run $100–$130 per player per season depending on age, with an additional $25 late-registration charge when applicable. That fee includes one Bowie FC game jersey.
County academy tuition is $250 per player per season for U8–U12 and $300 per season for U13 and older.
Travel academy tuition is $600 per player for the full year and covers fall, spring, and futsal.
Academy county players pay $150 for the winter futsal season; that futsal fee is wrapped into the travel academy annual tuition.
