About

East Brunswick Soccer Club (EBSC) is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit in East Brunswick, New Jersey. The club runs two main pathways: a recreational league that scales from introductory youngest-age programming through high school–age play, and a travel program with Premier and Championship levels for players who make rosters after tryouts. Programming follows U.S. Youth Soccer calendar-year age grouping, and travel rostering includes New Jersey Youth Soccer player-pass requirements.

What the club offers

Recreation spans roughly U3 through U15, while travel is offered from about U8 through U18. The youngest recreational track centers on Tiny Tykes and Superstars, where professional trainers lead hour-long sessions focused on fundamentals and small-sided play rather than full-sided league games. U7 and U8 instructional seasons move players toward real team practices during the week and weekend small-sided games that step up from 4v4 toward 6v6, with goalkeeper concepts introduced at U8 alongside fuller laws-of-the-game education. From U9 onward, recreation keeps weekday training—often including professional training touches—and weekend games against neighboring town teams in age-appropriate formats (7v7, 9v9, or 11v11 for older bands). After the U8 year, many players try out for travel; travel accepts a limited number of players each cycle.

For U8 and older recreational groups with volunteer parent coaches, the club typically schedules about one hour of professional training during the week plus one coach-led session, with Saturday games. Beginning around week three of a season, invited U8 players may join optional small-group advanced training on Fridays for an additional fee.

Travel soccer

Travel is organized into Premier teams and Championship teams. Premier sides train under SST, the contracted professional training group that runs practices and coaching responsibilities for those rosters. Training fees depend on whether a player is placed on Premier or Championship travel. Uniforms come through a third-party supplier on a two-year cycle, with new uniform orders in odd years. Families register for tryouts through the club’s TeamSnap form when tryouts are open. Expect shin guards and soccer cleats at tryouts, plenty of water, and a ball; current EBSC travel players must not wear travel kit or team-identifying gear to tryouts. Parents check in about thirty minutes before the first session, stay in designated areas, and avoid sideline coaching or cheering during evaluations. Every travel family signs the club’s travel policy acknowledgment before the next season registers.

Where teams train and play

EBSC does not own fields. Each season the club requests time at Dideriksen Park, Heavenly Fields turf, East Brunswick school fields, and other township parks, then receives assigned slots from the Parks Department. With more than a thousand recreational players and close to five hundred travel players spread across many teams, weekend kickoffs often run Saturday and Sunday from morning into evening; recreation mostly uses Saturdays between about 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with occasional Sunday or weeknight makeups when weather or field math requires it. Superstars traditionally stacks Saturday morning sessions, and U7 groups are sometimes kept on a steady weekly time. Individual recreational teams pick one weekday practice that fits volunteer coach availability, with registration notes used to avoid known night conflicts when rosters form.

Registration, fees, and volunteer expectations

Online registration opens for fall around May and for spring around October, with exact dates announced as each window approaches. Recreational registration runs about $160 per player, covering jerseys, referees, trophies, field supplies, insurance, coaching education, tournament participation, and professional training partners such as Challenger Sports. Each registration carries a two-hour work-bond expectation for families unless the adult is a head coach, assistant coach, or board member; families can satisfy hours through concessions, field setup, tournament help, team photography, and similar roles. A $200 work-bond check is collected and is only cashed if someone is assigned a shift and fails to show without arranging a replacement. Optional Friday advanced training for invited U8 players costs an additional $100 when families opt in.

Seasons and scheduling

Fall generally starts shortly after Labor Day and wraps before Thanksgiving; spring usually runs from late March into early June, sometimes with a built-in holiday week. Game grids and field assignments typically appear a few weeks before opening day, with SST training schedules and game spreadsheets shared for current cycles.
