About

Mundelein Soccer Club (MSC) is a volunteer-led competitive youth soccer organization for boys and girls based in Mundelein, Illinois. Leadership comes from parents and families in Mundelein and surrounding communities. Competitive programming starts at U8 and runs through high school, with teams playing under Illinois Youth Soccer Association (IYSA) oversight in leagues including YSSL, NISL, and IWSL while following IYSA, US Youth Soccer, U.S. Soccer Federation, and FIFA rules.

Competitive philosophy

MSC targets committed players who want a competitive soccer experience. Training emphasizes individual skill in structured practices, age-appropriate competitive games, tactical teamwork, and using soccer to reinforce fair play, self-confidence, and good citizenship. Organizational success is framed around meeting those development goals rather than win–loss records alone.

Year-round training rhythm

Player development is organized as a twelve-month commitment. Training typically runs twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with each day serving a different developmental role. Tuesday sessions follow a performance-training series that shifts by season: spring work on technical sharpness and tactical awareness, summer on tempo, endurance, and game application, fall on in-season performance and decision-making, and winter indoor blocks on accelerated technical repetition and tight-space mastery. Thursday sessions pair detailed technical training with competitive small-sided play in spring and fall, high-tempo technical work and match scenarios in summer, and a futsal development series indoors in winter. Outdoor training for spring, summer, and fall uses MSC Fields; winter indoor training uses Fremont School.

Seasonal session calendar (training)

Spring training is generally aligned with March through May, summer with June through August, fall with September through October, and winter with November through February. Open training registration has used spring blocks from late March through early June, summer from early June through mid-September, and fall from late September through late October, with registration running through the session sign-up flows MSC opens each season.

MSC Academy, tryouts, and younger outdoor training

MSC Academy tryouts support competitive teams for players roughly ages six through thirteen (labeled U7 through U14 on tryout materials), with teams competing in local, state, and regional leagues. Tryouts are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays; families register for tryouts and coordinate scheduling with the listed academy coaching contact. The club does not charge a fee to attend tryouts, walk-up registration is possible when a parent completes paperwork on site, and players are expected to participate in the tryout process each year rather than assume automatic roster carryover. After tryouts, families receive email offers within about one week and must accept or decline within twenty-four hours as rosters shift. Returning MSC players who cannot try out because of injury may be evaluated from past performance; players new to MSC may be offered a supplemental tryout when possible. The pre-academy and academy programs describe stepped-up technical and tactical expectations for players moving toward higher-level competition, including multi-season academy calendars for older youth groups. A separate outdoor spring training program for kindergarten through fifth grade meets at Behm Park at Fremont Fields from April into June to bridge winter indoor work into outdoor preparation.

Recognition

In 2023 the club won National Cup XXII U17 Premier and U19 Premier championships.

Frequently asked questions

What ages and program levels does Mundelein Soccer Club offer?Competitive club programming begins at U8 and continues through high school. MSC Academy tryout materials focus on roughly ages six through thirteen (labeled U7 through U14). A kindergarten-through-fifth-grade outdoor spring training block also runs at Behm Park at Fremont Fields. Year-round Tuesday and Thursday training sessions support players preparing for club competition, school soccer, or general skill growth.

How does registration work for Mundelein Soccer Club teams?Players complete the current tryout registration first. After tryouts finish, families receive a team registration link matched to the player’s placement.

Is there a fee to attend Mundelein Soccer Club tryouts? No. MSC does not charge a tryout fee and encourages players to attend.

Do returning Mundelein Soccer Club players still try out?Yes. Every player is expected to try out each year. Selection considers tryout performance plus attitude, commitment, and in-season behavior—not only one evaluation day.

Can players from other towns try out for Mundelein Soccer Club?Yes. Players from surrounding communities are welcome; rosters already include families from a wide radius.

What should families expect from year-round training?MSC schedules twice-weekly training year round. Tuesdays emphasize seasonal performance themes—technical and tactical growth in spring, tempo and endurance in summer, in-season sharpness in fall, and indoor technical repetition in winter. Thursdays layer technical work with small-sided or futsal-based games, moving outdoor in spring, summer, and fall at MSC Fields and indoors at Fremont School in winter.

How are tryout attendance and offers handled?Walk-up registration is allowed when a parent completes and signs registration and waiver paperwork on site, but advance registration is still expected. Attending both scheduled tryout dates is recommended so coaches can evaluate fully. Email offers typically arrive within about one week of tryouts, and families must accept or decline within twenty-four hours to hold or release a spot while rosters adjust.

Who should families contact for different questions?Program questions can go to info@mundeleinsoccerclub.org or (847) 830-8855. Questions about a child joining MSC or general soccer-program information go to Peter Petrov, Director of Coaching. Team-specific fees are broken out in MSC’s fees-by-team resource; payment issues start with the player’s coach. Registration form problems go to the club webmaster, and volunteer interest flows through the volunteer opportunities workflow.
