About

Newton Youth Soccer (NYS) is a boys youth soccer organization in Newton, Massachusetts, focused on player-centered programming and nurturing lifelong enjoyment of the game. The intramural program serves Newton residents or children who attend Newton schools in grades one through six, with Saturday games, volunteer-led teams, and professional support from New England Revolution Academy coaches at the youngest levels.

Intramural soccer for grades one through six

Intramural play stays in town with no travel to other communities, and teams are organized by grade. Spring 2026 runs April 11 through June 13, 2026, with no games over Memorial Day weekend. First-grade sessions take place at Nahanton Park (507 Winchester Street) on Saturday mornings in assigned time slots; each session blends roughly thirty minutes of technical work led by Revolution Academy staff with thirty minutes of 4v4 play, and volunteer parent coaches receive support on the field. Second through sixth grades use Brown/Oak Hill Middle School on Meadowbrook Road for longer Saturday blocks that combine training and games. Second and fifth/sixth grades rotate start times week to week once the season schedule is set before opening day; third-grade games are Saturday mornings at 9:00 with arrival around 8:40, and fourth-grade games are Saturday mornings at 10:30 with arrival around 10:10, each with two thirty-minute halves, a short halftime, and young NYS referees where applicable. Families seeking a girls-only program are referred to Newton Girls Soccer.

BAYS travel and high school soccer

Newton Youth Soccer competes in Boston Area Youth Soccer (BAYS). The high school travel band (grades 9–12) plays about seven Sunday games each fall in a recreational 7v7 format between September and November, with one practice per week, teams finalized in early September, and no tryouts for that fall season. In spring, BAYS offers both competitive 11v11 and recreational 7v7 divisions; competitive 11v11 teams hold mandatory tryouts in early March at Newton South High School with times assigned between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m., and teams are finalized in mid-to-late March. Spring 2026 Sunday league play runs April 26 through June 4 with playoffs June 14–20 and no games on May 24. Winter futsal for grades 9–12 meets Friday evenings from December 5 through March 20 at Bigelow Middle School and costs $150, with separate hour blocks for younger and older high school grades. Athletes who are 18 or who turn 18 during a season and play on rosters with minors must complete SafeSport abuse-prevention training and satisfy Mass Youth Soccer adult-athlete policies before being listed on a team. Coordinator email for grades 9–12 travel is highschool@newtonsoccer.org.

Clinics, camps, and officiating

School-break and summer options include ProPath-based clinics (for example a February 2026 third-through-eighth-grade session at Cabot Elementary and an April vacation clinic at Weeks Field in Newton Center hosted with Prep Soccer Academy), Revolution Academy summer camp blocks in Newton for ages 7–14, New England Surf camps at the Fessenden School with a discount code for NYS families, and Prep Soccer Academy evening training at Newton South High School for rising grades 8–12 with per-session or full-summer pricing. Intramural referee orientation targets Newton students entering sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, while BAYS officiating is open to people who are at least fourteen years old and in eighth grade or above once they earn USSF certification.
