Developmental League and early pathways

The Developmental Basic Program welcomes newcomers ages 4 through early elementary in a fun, low-commitment format: one Sunday per week combines a 30-minute skills block with a coached 4v4 game. Divisions follow school-grade groupings from Pre-K/Kindergarten through 5th/6th grade, with teams formed fresh each week so players rotate partners and avoid season-long mismatches. Each registrant receives a PSC Iowa developmental shirt; families supply shorts, socks, shin guards, cleats, and an age-appropriate ball (size 3 for youngest groups, size 4 for older developmental players). Fall seasons run six Sundays across September and October with built-in makeup dates; spring follows a similar April–May calendar. For 2026–2027, developmental league registration covers U4–U12 boys and girls on a fall-only schedule.

The Developmental Academy serves U7 and U8 players (2026–2027 birth years 8/1/2018–7/31/2020) who want more instruction with a maximum 8:1 player-to-coach ratio. Training runs mid-August through late October and again mid-March through early June, with optional winter sessions in January and February. Teams train at least once weekly for 60–75 minutes at Prairie Soccer Fields and Kirkwood Community College soccer fields, compete in the in-club PSC Developmental League on six Sundays, and join Saturday friendlies with Cedar Valley SC and FC United. Yearly fees are $345 ($195 per season); Nike uniform kits run about $65 plus optional gear. Optional local tournaments may carry additional entry costs.

U9/U10 Academy and select progression

The U9/U10 Academy targets players ages 8–9 (2026–2027 birth years 8/1/2016–7/31/2018) preparing for select soccer at 11U and above. There are no tryouts at this age per Iowa Soccer Association rules—every registrant is placed on evenly balanced teams by the Academy Director. Training is twice weekly (75 minutes) from early August through early November and mid-March through mid-June, with optional paid winter training one day per week for 12 weeks. Academy teams compete in the Eastern Iowa Youth Soccer League (EIYSL), an inter-club U9–U10 league whose member clubs include Cedar Valley SC, CRSA, Dubuque SC, FC United, ISC Iowa City, Iowa Rush North, Pearl City SC, and Sporting Iowa East. EIYSL weekends feature two games at rotating Eastern Iowa sites to limit travel. Academy teams also play four tournaments annually (two per season). Yearly academy fees are $595 ($355 per season); Nike uniform kits cost about $80, and tournament entry plus coach travel are team responsibilities.

Select teams begin at 11U with tryouts. For 2026–2027, 11U and 12U select tryouts for players born 8/1/2014–7/31/2016 run Monday, June 1 and Thursday, June 4 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. at Kirkwood Community College’s lower soccer field near the south entrance. Families register through the club’s online registration system. PSC Iowa is among Cedar Rapids-area clubs affiliated with Iowa Olympic Development Program (ODP) access and Iowa Soccer League State Cup and Presidents Cup competition.

Training sites and club resources

Primary training and match venues include Prairie Soccer Fields and Kirkwood Community College soccer fields in Cedar Rapids. PSC Iowa emphasizes access to one of the area’s largest training footprints, including a full-size lighted FieldTurf surface—the only club in the market with that resource for year-round training quality. The club operates as a Nike Soccer partner; academy and developmental academy players purchase required kits while practice shirts for academy tracks are included in program fees and distributed at seasonal team meetings.

Coaching staff and development philosophy

Academy Director Michael Robertson (U.S. Soccer National C License) oversees curriculum with Assistant Academy Director Steven Robertson, also National C licensed, drawing on decades of college, high school, club, and Iowa ODP coaching experience. Staff coaches hold Grassroots licenses at minimum before working with PSC Iowa teams. The club’s “Better Coaches, Better Resources, Better Game” approach pairs experienced teachers with age-specific curricula that build technical skill and tactical understanding rather than results-only play. Kick-Around nights introduce prospective academy families to staff before registration.
