KICKS recreational league

KICKS is the club’s grassroots program in Mesquite for youth ages 5 through 12, designed to be fun and developmentally appropriate for first-year players and returning athletes of all skill levels. The league follows recreation guidelines set by Utah Youth Soccer Association and US Youth Soccer. Spring registration typically opens in mid-December and closes in late February; games run on Friday evenings at the FC Mesquite field at Holiday Inn Resort, with an end-of-season tournament on a Saturday in May. Age groups span U-6 through U-13 based on birth-year brackets.

Registration is $65 per player and includes a jersey kit (jersey, shorts, and socks). Teams are formed randomly by the FC Mesquite board, with special team requests considered but not guaranteed. Volunteer parent coaches set practice times and locations after rosters are distributed. Players need mandatory shin guards, sneakers or soccer cleats (no baseball or football cleats), and an age-appropriate ball. Families seeking fee assistance can apply through the Kids For Sports Foundation before registration closes; approval and completed registration are both required before the deadline.

CLUB competitive teams

CLUB teams are competitive rosters that compete in the SU-IRL against clubs from St. George, Cedar City, and other Southern Utah communities. Recent spring rosters include FCM Blast (2009–2011 birth years), FCM Lightning (2014–2015), FCM Phoenix (2016–2017), and younger squads. Teams such as FCM Lightning and a coed high school club side have earned honors including Vegas Cup championships and Coyote Cup runner-up finishes.

Fall-season tryouts for the 2026–27 cycle are scheduled around mid-May, with exact dates and locations announced closer to the event. Beginning with the 2026–27 seasonal year, US Youth Soccer organizations nationwide are shifting age-group formation to school-grade cohorts rather than the long-standing January 1 birth-year cutoff. Selected players register through SportsAffinity with team assignment codes provided after tryouts. Club registration requires a shoulder-up photo and a copy of the birth certificate. Matchday uniforms are ordered through the club’s NewGen team shop; custom sizing means orders are final once placed, and delivery typically takes three to four weeks.

Development philosophy and player pathways

The club’s philosophy centers on what it calls “The Process”—focusing on step-by-step development rather than immediate wins. Mission and vision statements emphasize sportsmanship, ethical behavior, teamwork, and hard work on and off the field. FC Mesquite aims to be recognized as a leader in youth sports in Southern Utah and beyond, providing a positive, safe, and developmentally sound experience while helping players reach their full potential.

Many athletes begin in KICKS, advance through CLUB, and move into higher-level programs such as Albion MLS or Olympic Development Program pathways. The club celebrates college-bound players each year and works to place motivated athletes into ODP, regional programs, and collegiate opportunities when desired. FC Mesquite also hosts coaching education as a U.S. Soccer–sanctioned member organization and reimburses coaching-license costs for volunteer staff who complete U.S. Soccer courses.

Tournaments, events, and community

Beyond league play, FC Mesquite runs the HERO’S Cup tournament each November, drawing teams for a multi-day event. The club partners with local sponsors for KICKS field and jersey support, participates in Las Vegas Lights community nights, and maintains a fan gear shop for families who want additional training and spirit wear. Volunteer needs include coaching staff, team managers, event staff for ODP fundraisers and the HERO’S Cup, and certified referees—critical for keeping home SU-IRL games in Mesquite as official availability across Region 6 has declined.
