About

North Austin Soccer Alliance, often called NASA Soccer, is a local nonprofit youth soccer organization run mainly by volunteers. The club focuses on grassroots recreational soccer for families in north and central Austin and enrolls roughly 2,000 children each year. The tone of play is social and developmental: players learn the game in a fun environment rather than through a heavy travel or academy pipeline.

Recreational programming

Teams span from Under 5 through Under 19 for girls, boys, and coed groups where offered. Younger divisions emphasize skill sessions and small-sided play (for example, U5 with skill work and scrimmaging, U6–U8 in 3v3 and 4v4, U9–U10 in 7v7). From U11 upward, teams play 9v9 or 11v11 in Division 3 recreational soccer. Families who want a modest step-up within the same community club can choose Division 2 Grassroots Select for U11–U19, still framed around recreational participation rather than a separate elite track. Age groups follow a birth-year matrix aligned with U.S. Youth Soccer guidance; beginning in Fall 2026, age brackets shift to school-year alignment, so confirming a player’s group each season avoids surprises.

Registration, fees, and family support

Sign-up runs through GotSport. NASA asks each family to contribute about three hours of volunteer time during the season to keep costs down and fields running smoothly. Families who cannot volunteer may pay a $30 volunteer buyout toward operations instead. Registering before the early deadline reduces the season fee; after that window, standard rates apply until divisions fill.

Season registration fees are tiered by age and format: U5 is $125; U6–U8 is $145; U9–U10 is $165; U11–U19 Division 3 recreational soccer is $205; and U11–U19 Division 2 Grassroots Select is $235. Cleats and shin guards are not included in the club fee.

Uniforms, games, and extras

Weekly practices are scheduled by the volunteer coach. Most teams can expect up to six to eight scheduled league games, depending on weather and how many teams exist in an age band. New players in U5–U10 receive a uniform set (jersey, shorts, and socks) for the fall season; in spring, only new players in those ages receive a fresh kit. New U11–U19 players receive a uniform; replacements cost $45, while returning players become eligible for a free replacement uniform after three seasons. U5–U10 players receive a team “memory mate” photo with an individual inset, with optional add-on photo purchases; U11–U19 teams do not take club team photos at this time. Division 4 players in U5–U10 receive a personalized end-of-season trophy.

Fields and gameday expectations

Home games and practices use Austin ISD and Austin Parks sites across the north and central corridor, including Burnet Middle School, Cook Elementary, Pillow Elementary, Quarry Field, Soccer Park on Research Boulevard, 35th Street Field, and practice-only locations such as Gullett and Highland Park elementary schools. Field etiquette calls for parking only in school lots or on the school side of adjacent streets, staying clear of corners and private driveways, packing out trash instead of using school bins, and leaving noise makers such as air horns or cowbells at home.

Coaching and summer options

Parent volunteers coach most teams; the club trains new coaches and requires background checks plus online concussion and safety coursework. Families who coach can align practice day, time, and location with availability where possible, and a parent who coaches is placed with their own child’s team. During the off-season, optional Challenger Sports summer camps give players extra touches on the ball outside NASA league play.

How to reach the club

Questions about registration, coaching, or schedules go to info@northaustinsoccer.org or 512-371-3655. Community updates also circulate through NASA on Facebook. Charitable giving toward field and program costs beyond registration can go through Amplify Austin under the North Austin Soccer Alliance nonprofit profile.

Frequently asked questions

What ages and levels does North Austin Soccer Alliance offer?NASA runs recreational teams from U5 through U19 for girls, boys, and coed groups where available. Younger players use small-sided formats; U11–U19 plays 9v9 or 11v11 in Division 3 recreational soccer. U11–U19 families may also choose Division 2 Grassroots Select for a slightly higher competitive feel while staying inside the same community club.

Where do NASA teams practice and play?Home games and practices rotate across north and central Austin school and park sites, including Burnet Middle School, Cook Elementary, Pillow Elementary, Quarry Field, Soccer Park on Research Boulevard, 35th Street Field, and practice-focused locations such as Gullett and Highland Park elementary schools. Layout maps identify field grids at each complex, and coaches or league messages carry weather closures when fields shut down.

How does registration work and are there tryouts?NASA uses GotSport for player registration. Teams form as long as space remains in an age group; it is recreational community soccer rather than a tryout-based academy model. Spring seasons advertise open spots division by division until rosters fill, so registering early helps secure a place.

What does a NASA season cost?Standard registration is $125 for U5, $145 for U6–U8, $165 for U9–U10, $205 for U11–U19 Division 3 recreational soccer, and $235 for U11–U19 Division 2 Grassroots Select. Early registration before the stated deadline receives a discount. Each family either volunteers about three hours during the season or pays a $30 volunteer buyout. Cleats and shin guards are purchased separately.

What is included with registration?Fees cover a volunteer-coached weekly practice, up to roughly six to eight scheduled games depending on division size and weather, and uniform rules that favor new players each fall in U5–U10 and new U11–U19 players, with replacement fees for some returning players. U5–U10 receive a team photo package element and Division 4 players in those ages receive an end-of-season trophy.

What is NASA’s philosophy toward youth soccer?Recreational soccer here is meant as a fun fitness habit and neighborhood social outlet. Volunteer leadership keeps fees within reach, and teams focus on learning the game in a supportive setting instead of pressure-heavy travel programming.

How can families contact NASA or ask about coaching?Email info@northaustinsoccer.org or call 512-371-3655 for registration, scheduling, or coaching questions. New volunteer coaches receive guidance and must complete a background check and required safety training. Families can also follow NASA on Facebook for announcements.
