Programs and player pathway

Little Surfers is the Micro entry track for ages 3–5, built on evidence-based movement and Games for Understanding so young athletes build coordination, agility, spatial awareness, and early ball skills in a six-week Saturday morning block. Recreational soccer and the Talent Development Program (Rec/TDP) welcome ages 6–19 in a safe, inclusive setting that blends skill work, teamwork, and game-based learning through age-appropriate GFUs.

The Academy serves ages 6–10 as part of the club’s Select pathway with Surf, focusing on technical skill, decision-making, and small-sided play for players ready to move beyond recreation. Select covers ages 11–19 as the highest competitive tier: rosters form through tryouts, licensed coaches lead structured training, and teams compete locally, regionally, and nationally.

Recreational experience for families

Papillion’s recreational program centers on fun, learning, and equal opportunity. Players receive a full 10-week season with weekly games, two training opportunities per week, and evidence-based session plans delivered to volunteer coaches. Equal playing time is mandatory—a core value, not an optional guideline.

Coaches must complete SafeSport training, background checks, and Nebraska-mandated concussion education before receiving a roster. The club supplies a 10-week curriculum with two age-appropriate plans per week, a club-designated training night with director support, and guidance for a second flexible session at public parks such as Papio Bay on a first-come basis. Volunteer coaches who finish the season and return equipment may receive a full refund of their child’s registration fee. Rec teams compete in an external league that sets schedules, fields, and referees; coaches may submit blackout dates before the calendar is built.

Competitive development and affiliations

Select players train under licensed coaches with plans that emphasize technique, tactical awareness, and teamwork in high-level environments. Academy programming bridges recreational soccer and Select competition so motivated 6–10 year-olds can grow into tryout-based teams.

The club affiliates with U.S. Soccer, Nebraska State Soccer, US Youth Soccer pathways, and Nebraska league structures, and partners with Surf for select player development. Staff leadership includes a recreational director with advanced national coaching credentials and an assistant director who also supports Surf U19 National League work—reflecting the club’s emphasis on evidence-based coaching education at every level.

Beyond the field, Papillion Soccer Club relies on volunteer board members, age-group coordinators, and screened coaches to keep environments safe and competitive. Families can volunteer or explore coaching roles to help sustain one of the metro’s largest community clubs.
