About

Rainier Soccer Alliance (RSA) is a Washington-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has introduced youth soccer in Puyallup and surrounding Pierce County communities since 1976. The alliance runs two long-standing programs under one umbrella: RSA Union (Puyallup Soccer Club) for recreational players and RSA Elite (South Hill Soccer Club) for competitive select teams. Together they cover recreational U6–U19 and competitive U9–U19, giving families a local pathway from first touches through high-school-age league play.

RSA Union recreational soccer

RSA Union organizes fall recreational soccer for boys and girls U6 through U19. U6 Micro Soccer uses small-sided RSA-versus-RSA Saturday games at Woodland, an eight-game season ending around Halloween, plus Monday skills sessions led by the recreational coordinator with coach and family volunteers (rosters capped at eight players). U7–U12 teams play in the PCSA Home League with Saturday games after Labor Day, a ten-game season, and U11–U12 playoff paths into the Leanne Enhat Cup (girls) and Dave Painton Cup (boys). U13 and older athletes join the SSUL fall league (twelve games), with U13–U14 on Saturdays and U15+ typically on Sundays; combined U14/15 groups may play Saturdays, with first- and second-place awards.

Fall 2026 registration opens April 1, with a returning-player deadline of May 20 and registration closing June 15 (late fees apply after close). Coaches contact families by mid-July; practices usually begin in early August by age division; schedules post the last week of August; uniforms go to coaches in late August; games start the Saturday after Labor Day; and picture day runs in late September. Registration bundles membership insurance, player cards, field costs, referee and league fees, coaching equipment, background checks, online registration, and a two-color jersey with black shorts—payment plans and multi-child discounts are available at checkout. Friend requests and play-up adjustments can be noted during registration; play-up fees align to the division played.

RSA Elite competitive soccer

RSA Elite is the select program for players seeking year-round training and tournament play. Teams train two to three days per week with holiday breaks, and registration fees are presented as all-inclusive packages covering nationally licensed coaches, club professional skills sessions, goalkeeper training, online registration, membership insurance and player cards, practice and game field costs, coaching equipment, coach and volunteer background checks, league and referee fees, and staff support. A separate RSA Elite uniform kit (home/away match kits plus training kit) is required—only RSA Elite branded gear is worn at practices and matches, with orders shipped to families after registration.

Families join through tryouts to confirm fit for player and team. After the main tryout cycle, email the registrar to ask about roster space and arrange a late tryout. Tournament travel costs are team-level expenses collected by coaches or team managers. Withdrawals or transfers require registrar contact and Pierce County Soccer Association / Washington Youth Soccer approval.

Leagues, ages, and player development

RSA aligns with Washington Youth Soccer age-group guidance (birth on or after August 1 for listed divisions). Recreational programming emphasizes grade-friendly placement, community teams, and volunteer coaches—new coaches receive a free player registration after background check clearance. Elite teams compete in Washington Youth Soccer pathways and regional leagues such as NPSL, with club history including Founders Cup, Presidents Cup, Harbor Cup, and PCSA league honors.

The club mission centers on integrity, leadership, perseverance, respect, and teamwork while building self-esteem, confidence, and lifelong passion for soccer and overall player well-being. Director of Coaching Joe Lumsden (doc@rsasoccer.net) and Technical Director Cory Armstrong (cory.armstrong@rsasoccer.net) support the competitive track; Recreational Coordinator Bryan Ross (bryan.ross@rsasoccer.net) leads Union programming.

Registration, tryouts, and seasonal events

Current cycles highlight RSA Elite 2026/27 post-tryout interest forms, RSA Elite player registration with deposit due at signup and optional payment plans, and RSA Union fall recreational registration opening April 1, 2026. Free spring recreational skills clinics have been offered at Ballou Junior High (9916 136th St E, Puyallup) with age-banded Saturday sessions. The club also promotes referee training, sponsorship opportunities (vp@rsasoccer.net), and board or field-management volunteer roles—some positions include a free player registration.
