About

Sandpoint Soccer Association (SSA) is the community soccer organization serving Sandpoint, Ponderay, and northern Idaho’s Pend Oreille region. The club runs introductory Kick Start sessions for toddlers, a large recreational league for school-age players, and Strikers FC travel teams that compete in regional select leagues and tournaments. SSA’s mission centers on giving as many kids as possible a chance to play, compete, and grow as athletes and community members.

Kick Start (ages 2–4)

Kick Start welcomes children ages 2 through 4, with four-year-olds able to choose Kick Start or move straight into recreational league. Parents or caregivers stay on the field to guide players through fun, age-appropriate activities. Sessions run on Tuesdays from 4:15 to 5:00 p.m.; the spring 2026 block begins April 28. Each four-week session costs $55 and includes a participant t-shirt. Families register through Playmetrics and should bring a personalized soccer ball plus water and snacks.

Recreational league (U5–U18)

Recreational league serves players ages 4 through 18 (U5–U18). For the 2026 fall season, practices start September 14: younger groups U5–U8 train once per week, while U9–U18 practice twice weekly. League games begin September 18 at Farmin-Stidwell Elementary School, 1626 Spruce Street, Sandpoint. The rec registration fee is $75 per season, with optional red-and-white reversible jerseys available for $25 that can be reused in future seasons. SSA prioritizes player development and equal playing time over winning, including during the end-of-season tournament, and asks families to respect the game and limit sideline coaching. For rec questions, email rec@sandpointsoccer.com.

Strikers FC competitive travel

Strikers FC is SSA’s competitive program for players roughly U8 through U19. Tryouts for the 2026–2027 cycle are free and scheduled May 18–19 at Memorial Field on Ontario Street in Sandpoint, with age-band time slots from late afternoon into evening. Competitive seasons run fall (August–October) and spring (March–June); high school-age U15–U19 teams participate in the spring season only. Annual registration fees for 2026–2027 cover both fall and spring for younger groups: U8 is $495 (about $83 per month on a payment plan), U9–U10 is $695, U11–U12 is $895, and U13–U14 is $995, with most bands training twice per week and playing roughly six to eight league games per season plus the Pend Oreille Cup home tournament. U15–U19 spring registration is $495 with two to three weekly trainings and four to six games. Scholarships and six-month payment plans are available. Fees include goalkeeper training once per week with club GK coach Marshall Reese, Pend Oreille Cup entry, team equipment, league and state dues (US Club Soccer, Idaho Youth Soccer Association, Washington Premier League, and Eastern Washington Select League), coaching, field rental, and referee costs. Custom Strikers kits from Tursi are purchased separately, with uniforms available for fall 2026 through spring 2028.

Leagues, tournaments, and training sites

Strikers teams compete through US Club Soccer and league platforms including the Eastern Washington Select League and Washington Premier League. Beyond the Pend Oreille Cup in Sandpoint, teams may travel to events such as Hot Shot in Coeur d’Alene, Three Blind Refs in Kalispell, WA Cup in Seattle, Northwest Cup and Empire Cup in Spokane, Rumble in the Rockies in the Flathead Valley, and Idaho State Cup in Boise. Home and away training use Field of Dreams in Ponderay, Memorial Field and Travers Park in Sandpoint, and the indoor Striker Arena on North Boyer Road. SSA also hosts a June camp in 2026 for ages U5–U18 (June 22–24/25).

Philosophy and community role

SSA ties soccer to discipline, communication, teamwork, and self-belief, with the goal of developing players, coaches, and staff who contribute as leaders in the community. Strikers families are expected to volunteer at the Pend Oreille Cup, and the club partners with local sponsors to keep programming accessible in a rural market.

What ages and program levels does Sandpoint Soccer Association offer?Kick Start serves ages 2 through 4 with parent-led introductory sessions. Recreational league covers U5 through U18 with local games and development-focused coaching. Strikers FC is the competitive travel pathway from roughly U8 through U19, with separate spring-only programming for high school ages. SSA also runs seasonal camps such as the June 2026 camp for U5–U18.

Where does SSA train and play home games?Recreational fall 2026 games are at Farmin-Stidwell Elementary School, 1626 Spruce Street, Sandpoint. Strikers use Memorial Field on Ontario Street for tryouts and multiple Sandpoint-area venues: Field of Dreams at 100 Oneida Drive in Ponderay, Travers Park at 2016 Pine Street, and the indoor Striker Arena at 4203 North Boyer Road. Away league and tournament locations depend on each team’s schedule in EWSL, WPL, and US Club play.
