About

Wellesley United Soccer Club (WUSC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and volunteer-run youth soccer organization in Wellesley, Massachusetts, serving more than 1,800 players from Pre-K through grade 12 each season. Founded in 1978, WUSC is the largest youth sports program in Wellesley and one of the largest community-based youth soccer organizations in Massachusetts, supported by hundreds of volunteer coaches, about 150 student referees, and nine professional coaches who anchor advanced and supplemental programming.

Core programs from first touches through high school

The In-Town Program is a recreational intramural league for Pre-K through grade 3: Wellesley-only games, volunteer parent coaches, no tryouts, and spring and fall seasons. Spring 2026 runs six weeks from April 11 through May 31, with registration closing March 2, 2026; most age groups meet at the Sprague Fields complex, while grade 3 plays at Tenacre Country Day School with a Saturday game plus one mid-week practice arranged by the team. Spring 2026 registration fees are tiered by grade: $175 for Pre-K and kindergarten, $205 for grades 1–2, and $240 for grade 3, with a uniform shirt included in the fee.

The BAYS (Travel) Program serves grades 4–12 in the Boston Area Youth Soccer League against roughly 55 area towns. May tryouts group players by ability into stratified or balanced teams, and every registered player is placed on a team. Spring 2026 for grades 4–8 is a ten-week season from April 11 through June 13 with Saturday games (typical morning slots for girls and afternoon slots for boys, subject to change); home games use Sprague, Elm Bank, Schofield, and Perrin fields. The spring registration fee for grades 4–8 is $250; new travel players order a kit through We Got Soccer, while returning players reuse the club’s red Nike game jersey, gray practice top, black shorts, and black socks. High school BAYS (grades 9–12) is a seven-week spring season from April 26 through June 14 on Sunday afternoons, costs $230 including a uniform jersey, and registration closes March 10, 2026. Roster availability depends on registration numbers, level spread, and field capacity, so not every age or division may run each cycle—early registration is emphasized. Fall 2026 travel tryouts for younger bands are scheduled in late April and May (including two sessions for grade 3 and one for grades 4–7).

Development, premier, futsal, and inclusion

The Wellesley Development Program (WDP) adds supplemental professional training for players who want extra technical work while staying on an In-Town or BAYS team; spring 2026 registration closes March 1 with sessions beginning April 8. Wellesley Premier Club (WPC) is the advanced, professionally coached pathway in the New England Club Soccer League (NECSL), with a full-year fall–winter–spring commitment, two team trainings per week, Sunday league games in fall and spring, and April assessments (for example April 27–May 1 on the current calendar) to select teams for the following seasonal year. WPC players must also participate in In-Town or BAYS. Eligibility is tied to residence or school attendance in Wellesley within the WPC birth-date bands, which shift to a seasonal-year (August–July) age model starting with the 2026–27 cycle.

Wellesley Futsal Club (WFC) is a winter indoor program in the Massachusetts Youth Futsal League for motivated players in the club’s designated birth-year ranges, with October tryouts for team selection. TOPSoccer offers a US Youth Soccer–affiliated, buddy-supported experience for players with disabilities in grades K–12 in spring and fall; spring 2026 registration closes March 1 with the program starting April 12.

Clinics, tournaments, and extras

Seasonal clinics cover April vacation blocks, summer options, back-to-season BAYS tune-ups, WPC pre-season work, winter field sessions, and a Winter Futsal Academy, all led by the club’s professional staff. WUSC also hosts the Wellesley Memorial Day Tournament (Massachusetts Youth Soccer–sanctioned 7v7 for U9 and U10 / grades 3–4) on Memorial Day weekend, with the 2026 edition scheduled for May 23–24 in the Greater Boston area. Private training is available as a separate offering.

Registration, uniforms, and aid

Most programs register through the WUSC AdminSports portal at secure.adminsports.net/wellesley (In-Town, BAYS, futsal, TOPSoccer, clinics, and volunteer coaching). Wellesley Premier Club and Wellesley Development Program use the separate portal at secure.adminsports.net/wellesleypremier. Travel uniform details and ordering flow through We Got Soccer as described for each band. TOPSoccer, financial assistance, fundraisers, and scholarships for graduating seniors are part of how WUSC invests in the community—families who need help should reach out through the club’s contact channels for current options and deadlines.

Fields, referees, and how to reach the club

Outdoor play is spread across Wellesley locations including the Sprague Fields complex (turf and grass segments on School Street and Calvin Road), Elm Bank Reservation on Washington Street, Tenacre Country Day School on Benvenue Street, Perrin Park on Thomas Road, and elementary school fields such as Bates, Schofield, Hunnewell, Upham, and Hardy, with parking rules that follow each school or park. Middle school students can start as In-Town referees in grades 7–8 at Sprague, earning about $20–$25 per game, then pursue Massachusetts State Referee Committee certification at age 14 and up for BAYS assignments with higher per-game pay; WUSC reimburses certification ($115) and annual recertification ($50) for eligible high school and college-age referees. A mandatory pre-season referee clinic typically runs about two hours in the Sprague School cafeteria shortly before each fall and spring season.

Frequently asked questions

What ages and program levels does Wellesley United Soccer Club offer?WUSC runs six core tracks: In-Town recreational soccer Pre-K through grade 3; BAYS travel for grades 4–12; Wellesley Development Program supplemental training while enrolled on In-Town or BAYS; Wellesley Premier Club for advanced NECSL play with a year-round commitment; Wellesley Futsal Club for winter indoor competition; and TOPSoccer for players with disabilities in grades K–12. Seasonal clinics and private training sit alongside those programs.

Where does the club train and play? Most In-Town spring play centers on Sprague Fields, with grade 3 at Tenacre Country Day School. BAYS home games use Sprague, Elm Bank, Schofield, and Perrin fields, and the club uses additional school and park fields across Wellesley with venue-specific parking rules. WPC trains and hosts home games in Wellesley while traveling for away NECSL matches.

When is spring registration and when do seasons start in 2026?For spring 2026, In-Town registration closes March 2 with games beginning the weekend of April 11–12; BAYS grades 4–8 registration closes January 12 with league play starting April 11; BAYS high school registration closes March 10 with play starting April 26; WDP registration closes March 1 with sessions from April 8; and TOPSoccer registration closes March 1 with the program beginning April 12. Confirm the latest deadlines in AdminSports when you register because they can change by program.

What do In-Town and BAYS spring registration cost?Spring 2026 In-Town fees are $175 for Pre-K and kindergarten, $205 for grades 1–2, and $240 for grade 3, including the uniform shirt. BAYS spring is $250 for grades 4–8 plus separate uniform purchases for new travel players, and $230 for grades 9–12 including a jersey, with the understanding that high school team offerings depend on registration numbers and field capacity.

How do BAYS travel tryouts and team placement work?May tryouts evaluate players to build balanced or stratified BAYS teams, and every registered travel player receives a team placement. Spring teams for grades 4–8 are usually carried over from fall when possible, with adjustments based on returning numbers and coach availability. Grade 3 players moving into travel follow the late-spring tryout windows the club schedules ahead of the next fall season.

What is the club’s mission and community focus? The mission is to develop character, teamwork, and lifelong love of the game while strengthening Wellesley through sport, with room for players of different abilities in a volunteer-led nonprofit. Community elements include large-scale volunteer coaching, student referee pathways, TOPSoccer, financial assistance, and senior scholarships.
